SERMON TEXT: Romans 1:24-32
TITLE: God Gave Them Up
THEME: Dismissing the Glory of God
TEXT: For although they knew God, they did not honor him as God or give thanks to him, but they became futile in their thinking, and their foolish hearts were darkened. Claiming to be wise, they became fools, and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images resembling mortal man and birds and animals and creeping things.
OUTLINE:
Paul is a preacher of the Gospel of the crucified and risen Lord, Jesus, the Christ. He’s writing to the Roman Christians. He has explained that the righteous shall live by faith, and that the wrath of God is against unrighteousness of men. All are culpable, because God has shown Himself to all. But many have ignore Him and claimed their own foolishness as wisdom.
So…there’s some really bad news.
God gave them up. He gave them up in the lusts of their hearts and to dishonorable passions.
The Holy Spirit speaks plainly through Paul about things that society, government, and a huge portion of the church says are not clear. They are. They are crystal clear.
Those who refuse to acknowledge God and His authority, He will allow to go and do “what ought not to be done”.
That is really bad news.
Because “those who practice such things deserve to die.
